Secure file migration from a network drive to SharePoint Online.
How we migrated all of Sedermera's files from a network drive (G:) to SharePoint Online, with scripted delta migration, security and access in focus, and training that took the staff into a new way of working.
Years of files on a shared network drive (G:) had to move to the cloud, without losing control of security and permissions, and without losing the staff along the way.
Sedermera kept its documents on a traditional network drive (G:). To work in a modern, secure and accessible way, everything needed to move to SharePoint Online, but a file server and SharePoint Online work differently, both technically and in how people work.
The challenge was to migrate large volumes of files securely and with the right permissions, minimise disruption to daily work, and make sure the staff felt confident in the new way of working.
Scripted delta migration
We built scripts that migrated the files from G: to SharePoint Online and handled the delta, so changes were captured and the migration could happen in stages, without disrupting daily work.
Security and access in focus
Throughout the migration the focus was on security and permissions, the right people, the right access, so sensitive documents were handled correctly in the new environment too.
Training and a new way of working
SharePoint Online means a changed way of working compared with a file server. We trained the staff so they quickly got into the new routines and could make full use of the platform.
